Workshops

Gary Wornell will be giving a series of 2 and 4 day Digital Printmaking Workshops at his studio in Riihimäki, Finland during 2009. The courses are designed for artist professionals and skilled amateurs as well as photographers and traditional print makers who wish to expand their craft printing repertoir.

Course Aims

The aim of the courses will be to experiment with digital inkjet printing techniques. By combining various substrates, inkjet receptive layers, and collage materials, as well as UV protective coatings and varnishes, the student will discover that the possibilities are limitless.


The participants will gain valuable experience in the following areas:

  • Printing with the Epson Wide Format Printers.
  • Using special inkjet precoats.
  • Preparing custom surfaces on a variety of substrates and papers.
  • Safe practices for exploration with inkjet technology.
  • Creating custom profiles for custom surfaces.
  • Post coat and UV protective coatings.

The studio is situated across the road from the Finnish Glass Museum in the area known as Hyttikortteli or cabin quarters - the earlier homes of the glass blowers next to the old glass factory. Riihimäki is just 70km from the capital Helsinki with good bus and rail connections.

Ryan air flights from London Stansted to Tampere provide cheap international access to Finland as well as the regular flights from other airlines to Helsinki Vantaa airport. In both cases Riihimäki is just over one hour away from the arrivals gate.
